Homeopathy
The term “Homeopathy” comes from the Greek words “homeo,” meaning similar, and “pathos,” meaning suffering of disease. Homeopathy seeks to stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself by giving very small doses of highly diluted natural substances that come from plants, minerals, or animals. It is based on the “principle of similars” or “like cures like,” meaning that a disease can be cured by a substance that produces similar symptoms in healthy people.
According to the National Health Interview Survey of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, almost 4,000,000 U. S. adults, and approximately 900,000 children receive homeopathic treatments each year. The treatments are used for a wide range of health concerns, from wellness and prevention, to the treatment of diseases and conditions such as allergies, asthma, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, digestive disorders, ear infections, headaches, and skin rashes.
